About This Access Site
Bussey Brake Ramp provides access to a 2,200-acre reservoir in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, offering a well-developed launch facility with a three-lane concrete boat ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and larger vessels. The ramp is part of a Wildlife Management Area that features multiple fishing piers, including an ADA-accessible option, and a wave break for shore-based access. The surrounding 2,600-acre tract also includes eight miles of levee trails for hiking and biking.

The reservoir offers a calm-water paddling environment ideal for recreational kayakers and canoeists, with good fishing opportunities throughout the year. The area is located near two national wildlife refuges—Handy Brake NWR just north of Bastrop and Upper Ouachita NWR further north—making it a convenient base for exploring the region's wetlands and wildlife viewing. Visitors should secure their vehicles and gear, as the area is in a rural part of north Louisiana.
