About This Access Site
**Location & Access**
Caballo Lake State Park, located about 60 miles north of Las Cruces near the town of Oasis in Sierra County, provides convenient water access to both Caballo Lake and the Rio Grande. From I-25 (Exit 63, south of Truth or Consequences), take NM 152 East and follow signs to the park entrance. The boat ramp is well-developed and accessible for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats.

**Facilities & Recreation**
This state park offers excellent amenities for paddlers and boaters, including multiple boat ramps, developed campgrounds with RV hookups, a visitor center, restrooms, and dump stations. The surrounding Chihuahuan desert landscape provides scenic paddling, with cottonwood-lined sections of the Rio Grande accessible via the Riverside Campground. The lake and river area support diverse activities including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, and hiking on nearby trails.

**What to Expect**
Caballo Lake offers calmer reservoir paddling, while the Rio Grande provides a different paddling experience closer to the Riverside area. The park's full-service facilities, including firewood sales and group shelters, make it suitable for day trips or extended camping. Check with park staff for current water conditions and any seasonal variations that may affect paddling.
