About This Access Site
Camp Comfort County Park in Greene, Iowa provides convenient public access to the Shell Rock River with both a hard surface boat ramp and canoe access points. The park is well-equipped for day-use and overnight visitors, featuring a large shelter house, camping facilities with electrical hookups for up to 30 trailers, tent camping areas, and restroom facilities. A recreational trail and riverside overlook deck are also available for visitors.

When launching from Camp Comfort, be aware that the Shell Rock River has a low-head dam upstream, which creates obstacles for motorized boats. A gravel access point below the boulder riffle is available, and a hard surface ramp on the east side of the river below the dam provides an alternative launch point in the nearby Shell Rock area. Kayakers and canoeists will find suitable paddling conditions, while anglers can expect excellent fishing opportunities for walleye, smallmouth bass, and catfish both above and below the dam. For shelter and camping reservations, contact the park at 319-885-6555.
