About This Access Site
Camp Kennedy is a fee-based boat launch providing access to Herrington Lake and the Dix River in the Cumberland Plateau region near Lancaster, Garrard County. The access point is operated on an honor system, with typical launch fees around $4-$5 depending on your vessel type. This location offers paddlers and boaters a gateway to both the scenic lake waters of Herrington Lake and the flowing sections of the Dix River below the dam. For current fee information and specific details, visit the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Resources website at https://app.fw.ky.gov/fisheries/accesssitedetail.aspx?asid=276.

The site provides good access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. Paddlers interested in moving between the lake and river can portage through the rapids at Herrington Lake Dam to access the tailwater below. The trout-designated water extends from the dam downstream for nearly a mile, making this an excellent spot for anglers. Note that live bait is prohibited once you enter the Dix River. The nearby Camp Nelson National Monument offers additional historical context and recreational opportunities for visitors to the area.
