About This Access Site
The Canajoharie boat ramp provides convenient access to the Erie Canal-Mohawk River system on the south shore just west of the NY Route 10 bridge. This hard surface ramp accommodates approximately 20 cars and trailers and is located adjacent to Riverfront Park, offering easy access to town amenities and facilities. For more information or to confirm current conditions, contact the New York DEC at 607-652-7366.

At this location on the Mohawk River, paddlers can expect a large, moderately flowing waterway characteristic of this section of the Erie Canal system. With an average flow of approximately 3,455 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 2.87 feet per second, conditions are generally suitable for kayaks and canoes, though current conditions and water levels can vary seasonally. The Canajoharie access point sits along the developing 128-mile water trail that extends from Rome to Waterford, flowing through scenic valleys, woodlands, farmland, and past historic communities. Paddlers should be aware of typical barge canal conditions and check current water levels before launching.
