This boat ramp provides access to Carlyle Lake, Illinois' largest man-made reservoir located approximately 50 miles east of St. Louis. The Huey access point is one of eleven boat ramps positioned around the lake's perimeter, offering convenient launch options for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. There is no outboard motor size limit on the lake, making it suitable for a variety of watercraft. The lake also provides access to the Kaskaskia River via three additional ramps (one upstream and two downstream of the reservoir).
Carlyle Lake is a popular destination for water-based recreation, with excellent opportunities for paddling, fishing, sailing, and swimming. The surrounding area offers multiple amenities including camping facilities at nearby reservable campgrounds (Boulder, Dam West, and Dam East - McNair are all within 10 miles), picnic areas, and fish cleaning stations at various day-use areas. For paddlers planning an overnight trip, Dam West Campground on the southern shore and other nearby facilities provide convenient accommodation options near the water.
