Located in Mellen, Ashland County, the Caroline Lake boat ramp provides public access to this scenic northern Wisconsin waterway. This is a publicly-owned launch facility suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boats. Note that access requires a boat ramp access card ($5.50), which must be obtained in advance—you'll need the key card to enter the gate at the ramp.
The ramp offers parking and shore access along the dam and shoreline, making it convenient for both launching and fishing. No unauthorized motorized vehicles are permitted on the dam itself. The location provides an excellent gateway to exploring the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and connecting with the North Country National Scenic Trail, allowing paddlers to combine water-based recreation with hiking opportunities in the largest expanse of public lands in northern Wisconsin.
