Carpenter Island is a public boat launch located in Pateros on the Columbia River, just downstream of Wells Dam. This man-made, L-shaped island provides convenient access to Lake Entiat, the reservoir formed by Wells Dam. The ramp is suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, making it a good starting point for paddlers exploring this section of the Columbia River.
**Important Note:** Overnight camping is not permitted at this launch site. Plan accordingly if you're launching for day trips or multi-day excursions. The location offers relatively easy access to a wider, more lake-like section of the Columbia River, which is generally more manageable than upstream whitewater areas. Nearby paddlers can also access Rufus Woods Lake and explore the broader region around Chief Joseph Dam, one of the nation's largest hydropower facilities.
