Chamois Access

Chamois Access provides a boat ramp and day-use facilities on the right bank of the Missouri River at mile marker 117.9, located about 21 miles east of Jefferson City via Highway 50 and Highway 100. The ramp points slightly downstream and approaches nearly perpendicular to the river; note that a trailing dike upstream requires you to turn in at the last moment to avoid it. The site includes 4 campsites with electric and water hookups, shade areas, and basic amenities.

This section of the Missouri River is a major waterway with an average flow of approximately 121,000 cubic feet per second and substantial current (7.4 feet/second). Paddlers should expect a powerful river with an average gradient of 3.9 feet per mile. **Canoeists and kayakers should be aware that water access from this ramp is noted as rough**, so plan accordingly and ensure your vessel and skill level are suited to this large river's conditions. The closest bridge for shuttle planning is at Hermann, approximately 20 miles downstream. Day use only is permitted at the ramp site.
