About This Access Site
Located on the west shore of Cheney Reservoir near Cheney, Kansas (approximately 25 miles west of Wichita), this access site offers a public boat ramp and dock maintained by the Ninnescah Sailing Association. The ramp is situated east of the Afterdeck at the end of the turnaround near the Shelter House. This is a well-established facility that serves both motorboats and sailboats, making it suitable for various watercraft. For specific details about access, hours, or fees, contact the Harbormaster at harbormaster@ninnescah.org.

Cheney Reservoir sits on the North Fork Ninnescah River, a medium-sized river system (Stream Order 5) with moderate flow averaging about 186 cubic feet per second. The water body offers relatively stable conditions for paddling and sailing, with an elevation drop of approximately 594 feet across the river's 109-mile length upstream. Cheney Lake is recognized as one of the top 10 sailing destinations in the United States and attracts paddlers and sailors throughout the region.

This access point works well for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats onto the reservoir. Paddlers should note that this is a developed recreation area within Cheney State Park, so amenities and services are likely available nearby. The Ninnescah Sailing Association welcomes members and visitors, making it an accessible option for day trips or longer paddling excursions on the reservoir.
