Cheney-Wenzel Cove provides boat ramp access to Cheney Lake (Cheney Reservoir) on the North Fork Ninnescah River, located near the town of Cheney in Reno County, Kansas. The access site includes a boat ramp, parking lot, vault toilet, docks, and jetty—making it a well-equipped launch point for paddlers and boaters. The protected cove location offers calmer conditions ideal for launching kayaks and canoes.
Cheney Lake is a substantial reservoir with approximately 9,500 surface acres and 67 miles of shoreline, offering plenty of water to explore. The North Fork Ninnescah River upstream features moderate flow (averaging 186 cubic feet per second) and a 5.4 ft/mile gradient, characteristics typical of a medium-sized river. Several additional boat ramps are available around the lake if you prefer alternative launch points. The reservoir serves as a major water supply for Wichita and provides good opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing in addition to paddling and boating.
