Cherokee Heights is a boat ramp access point on Kentucky Lake, the Tennessee River impoundment in Decatur County, Tennessee. This major waterway is a large reservoir system created by damming the Tennessee River, offering relatively calm water conditions compared to the free-flowing sections downstream. The ramp provides access to one of the most significant recreational waterways in the southeastern United States, with excellent opportunities for both motorized and non-motorized boating.
Kentucky Lake spans over 650 miles in length with a substantial drainage basin of 40,213 square miles. The water here is generally calm and suitable for various boating activities, though boaters should be aware of the extensive boat traffic typical of popular reservoir systems. The elevation at this access point is approximately 92 meters, well within the normal pool elevation range of Kentucky Lake.
Paddlers and boaters using this access should be prepared for potential encounters with larger recreational vessels and commercial activity typical of major Tennessee River reservoirs. The lake environment provides good opportunities for fishing, cruising, and day-use recreational boating activities.
