About This Access Site
Chester Woods Park offers a well-maintained paved boat ramp on Bear Creek Reservoir, a 118-acre impoundment located in the scenic bluff country of Southeastern Minnesota. The reservoir features multiple arms and coves ideal for exploring, with a maximum depth of 37 feet. Note that standing timber is present throughout the reservoir, so paddlers and boaters should navigate carefully. An **Olmsted County Parks permit is required** to access the park and water body.

The park provides convenient amenities for boaters, with a mile-long hard-surfaced trail connecting the boat launch to a fishing pier, picnic areas, and a 50-unit campground with restrooms and showers. This makes Chester Woods an excellent base for day trips or extended stays. The park also features 15 miles of primitive trails through natural habitats for those interested in hiking. Motor vehicles and bicycles are restricted to improved roads and designated trails, helping preserve the natural character of the area.
