The Chestnut Street Boat Ramp offers free public access to Presque Isle Bay on Lake Erie in Erie, Pennsylvania. This concrete ramp is approximately 16 feet wide and is located on the city side of the bay, nearly across from the Presque Isle Marina channel. The ramp provides a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters accessing the bay's popular fishing waters and recreational boating opportunities.
**Important Note:** This ramp has had ongoing maintenance issues and may not always have functional ramps in place. It's advisable to call ahead or check current conditions before visiting, as the Port Authority has faced repair challenges in recent years. The site has minimal facilities beyond the ramp itself. Water skiing is permitted in the bay and lake, though it's restricted to 500 feet from shore except for takeoff and approach purposes. The bay is known for smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing, making it a popular destination for anglers as well as recreational paddlers.
