About This Access Site
Chickahominy Reservoir, located on Highway 20 between Bend and Burns in Eastern Oregon, offers a paved boat ramp near the dam for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The reservoir is a popular fishing destination stocked annually with rainbow trout, with water levels that fluctuate seasonally based on spring runoff—lower water levels in late season may occasionally affect access. The recreation site is open year-round, though the reservoir typically freezes by mid-December.

The facility includes 28 first-come, first-served campsites available for $16 per vehicle per night (14-day maximum stay), along with convenient amenities including drinking water, vault restrooms, and a fish cleaning station. Paddlers should note that while there is no charge for launching at a designated paddlecraft area, launching at the main boat ramp requires a daily pass. For current conditions, water levels, and pass information, contact the site at 541-573-4400. The scenic location is surrounded by foothills and distant buttes, making it an attractive base for both day trips and extended paddling outings.
