About This Access Site
This boat ramp provides access to Chippewa Lake, a large 14,593-acre lake located in the Namekagon area of Bayfield County. The ramp is located off Forest Service Road 187, approximately one mile from the Mineral Lake Campground area. The lake's maximum depth of 92 feet and size make it suitable for various boating activities, including kayaking, canoeing, and motorboating.

The lake is a popular destination for fishing (musky, bass, walleye, and panfish), swimming, and eagle watching. However, paddlers should be aware that Chippewa Lake contains numerous sand and rock bars, stumps, floating bogs, and driftwood that can pose hazards to boats, particularly smaller craft. Exercise caution when navigating, especially in unfamiliar areas. For directions, take County Highway GG from either Mellen (west) or Clam Lake (north) for approximately 9 miles to the campground sign, then follow Forest Service Road 187 to the ramp.

The nearby Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest offers additional recreation opportunities, and the North Country National Scenic Trail provides access to the broader region's natural features.
