About This Access Site
The Choga Road boat access site provides a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats on Nantahala Lake in western North Carolina. The single-lane boat ramp is located on the west shore of the lake, accessible via Choga Road off NC-28. Parking is limited but available near the ramp.

Nantahala Lake is a scenic reservoir on the Nantahala River, surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest. The lake offers calm, protected waters well-suited for paddling and small boating. Anglers can target species like walleye in the lake. While much of the shoreline is public land, some private property borders the water, so be mindful of your location. In addition to this Choga Road access, the Rocky Branch boat ramp on the east side of the lake provides another public launch point.

Choga Road is a 12-mile gravel and natural surface road, so use caution when accessing the boat ramp, especially with a trailer. No fees or reservations are required to use this public access area. With its peaceful setting and convenient location, the Choga Road boat ramp is a great option for exploring the beautiful Nantahala Lake.
