The City of Kenai Boat Launch provides access to the lower Kenai River, a large and dynamic waterway in southern Alaska. The Kenai River is a broad, 6th-order river, flowing for over 97 miles from its headwaters to the Cook Inlet. With an average discharge of over 1,000 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 4.2 feet per mile, the Kenai presents both opportunities and challenges for paddlers and boaters.
The public boat ramp is located just off the Kenai Spur Highway, about 1.6 miles south of milepost 10.8. It features a large parking area that can accommodate over 200 vehicles and trailers, as well as 4 separate launch lanes. This makes it a popular access point for those exploring the Kenai River by kayak, canoe, or motorized boat. While the ramp does not offer any camping facilities, it provides a convenient launching spot for day trips and multi-day adventures on this renowned Alaskan river system. Paddlers should be prepared for the Kenai's swift currents, wind, and changeable conditions, and always wear appropriate safety gear.
