Clinton Lake is a 4,900-acre cooling lake managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, offering six public boat ramps for convenient water access. The De Witt access area provides a wheelchair-accessible boat dock, making it easy to launch kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. This popular destination is known for excellent fishing opportunities and scenic paddling, with shelters available at several access points around the lake.
**Conditions & Regulations:** Clinton Lake operates under a no-wake policy, with electric motor-only or no-boat zones in certain areas for safety. Small watercraft should be aware that the lake can become very rough in windy conditions—paddlers are urged to stay in the protected North Fork area of Salt Creek on days with strong winds. Swimming is not permitted within 100 yards of bridges, boat ramps, or docks. A $2 per-day beach fee applies.
**Amenities:** The Clinton Lake recreation area includes multiple access points with varying facilities. Some areas feature shelters (Peninsula and Weldon have electricity), and several are accessible by water for those exploring the full lake. Check IDNR's Clinton Lake website for current conditions, reservation details for shelters, and to confirm specific amenities at the De Witt ramp before your visit.
