Clinton Lake-2 provides access to the upper Wakarusa River and Elk Creek Wetlands area near Lawrence, Kansas. This is a non-reservable boat ramp facility within KDWP Clinton State Park. Note that launching requires carrying your boat from the outlet park down the bank, as this is the only boat ramp on the Wakarusa River system in this area.
The Wakarusa River is a large stream (Stream Order 6) with an average flow of approximately 316 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient of 5.8 feet per mile. Paddlers should be prepared for navigation challenges, as the river frequently has trees and debris that create fully blocked sections requiring portaging. When approaching from the Kansas River via the Eudora Access Ramp, turn upstream approximately ½ mile past the Eudora Kansas River Bridge; the Wakarusa's mouth is on river right but can be difficult to spot.
Clinton Lake offers a full range of recreational opportunities near Lawrence and the University of Kansas, with nearby camping available at Rockhaven Park Equestrian Campground and other facilities within the state park system.
