About This Access Site
Colt Creek State Park offers a convenient boat ramp for paddlers and small boaters looking to access East Pond and the park's freshwater lake system. The ramp is suitable for canoes, kayaks, gheenoes, and jon boats. Electric trolling motors are permitted, but gas-powered motors are prohibited. If you don't have your own watercraft, kayak and canoe rentals are available at the ranger station (note: rentals must be returned at least one hour before sunset).
The park features three interconnected freshwater lakes, with Mac Lake being the largest, offering peaceful paddling and fishing opportunities surrounded by typical Florida landscape including pine trees, wildflowers, and saw palmettos. A 2-mile canal also connects to Lake Apopka for those seeking expanded paddling options. Beyond water activities, Colt Creek State Park has 27 full-facility campsites and six tent-only sites, making it convenient for multi-day trips. The park is located in Polk County and includes several nature trails for exploring on foot.
