About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** Columbia Bottom Conservation Area offers boat ramp access to the Missouri River at West Alton, St. Louis County, near the I-270 Bridge (mile marker 3.6). From I-270, take the Riverview Drive exit and travel north approximately 2.8 miles, following signs to the access area. Note that current access involves a 6-mile drive with over 3 miles on gravel road, though an improved route is planned. The conservation area is closed from one-half-hour after sunset until one-half-hour before sunrise, except for authorized hunting, fishing, and boat ramp use.

**River Conditions:** The Missouri River at this location is a major river system with significant flow (averaging over 121,000 cubic feet per second) and moderate current velocity. Paddlers and boaters should expect a powerful river with an average velocity of 7.4 feet/second and a 3.9 ft/mile gradient. This is an appropriate access point for experienced paddlers and motorized vessels accustomed to large river conditions rather than beginner paddlers.

**Nearby Attractions:** The site is conveniently located near Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, making it an excellent put-in for longer Missouri River trips or day trips combining river access with urban sightseeing opportunities.
