About This Access Site
Corn Creek Campground offers a well-maintained paved boat ramp serving as the primary put-in for the Main Salmon River in central Idaho. Located 3 miles south of Salmon at 2,929 feet elevation, this access point features ample shoreline upriver from the ramp for launching kayaks, canoes, and rafts. The site includes a full campground with picnic facilities and is situated within the Bitterroot National Forest. Note that the downriver portion of the ramp is reserved for jet boat use, so coordinate your launch accordingly.

The Salmon River at this point is a major waterway (Stream Order 8) with substantial flow averaging 13,100 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 5.22 feet per second. The river's steep gradient of 23.1 ft/mile and significant elevation range indicate powerful currents and challenging conditions—this is a demanding river suitable for experienced paddlers. Water levels and flow rates vary seasonally, so check current conditions before planning your trip. The river supports excellent fishing for trout, steelhead, and whitefish throughout the season.
