About This Access Site
Cottonwood Beach is a public boat ramp providing access to Alcova Reservoir, a 2,470-acre impoundment on the North Platte River located about 30 miles northwest of Casper, Wyoming. The ramp is situated within Cottonwood Campground, which offers a convenient base for extended paddling trips and features a nearby Dinosaur Interpretive Trail for additional exploration. This is one of eight boat ramps available around the reservoir, giving paddlers multiple launch options depending on wind and water conditions.

The reservoir offers excellent conditions for kayaking, canoeing, and recreational boating throughout the summer season. Anglers frequently access the water to fish for brown trout, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and walleye, making this a popular multi-use destination. Facilities at Cottonwood Beach include the public boat ramp, a large group shelter available for reservation, and access to campgrounds ranging from full-hookup options to first-come, first-served primitive sites. Note that potable water and electrical hookups are not available at the beach area itself, so plan accordingly.
