Crooked River State Park

Crooked River State Park offers a convenient boat ramp for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats to access the tidal Crooked River. The ramp is located at the end of GA Spur 40, about 4 miles from the main park entrance.

The Crooked River is a meandering coastal waterway that winds through salt marshes and maritime forests. It's part of the Intracoastal Waterway system, so the water level and currents are influenced by the tides. Paddlers and boaters can explore the river's peaceful backwaters and marshes, keeping an eye out for coastal wildlife like herons, egrets, and dolphins.

The boat ramp provides direct access to the river. There is a courtesy dock available when not in use. Anglers often launch from here to fish for species like redfish, seatrout, and sheepshead. Campers staying at the Crooked River State Park campground can easily access the water from the boat ramp. While the ramp is open to the public, there are no services or fees associated with its use.

Located at the Sea Camp dock on Cumberland Island. Visitors camping on the island must visit Sea Camp for a quick orientation and to receive their camping permits. Volunteers and rangers staff the station when available throughout the day. Here visitors can get information, see exhibits, attend interpretive programs, and rent bicycles when the ferry arrives.
