Cross Timbers Access is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers leased facility providing boat ramp and parking access to the Pomme de Terre River near Wheatland in Hickory County. This is a convenient put-in for kayakers and canoeists exploring the scenic Pomme de Terre River system. Note that the Harry S. Truman Reservoir may back up to this location, which can affect water conditions and flow patterns depending on current lake levels.
The nearby Pomme de Terre Lake offers additional recreational opportunities, known for its cool, clear spring-fed waters. If you're planning a longer paddle, Sapp Landing Access (the last access above the reservoir) is available downstream on County Road 64. For those visiting the Hermitage area of Pomme de Terre Lake, additional boat ramps are available at the campground (March–November) and off Highway 64 on the north side of the park. As with all Corps of Engineers recreation areas, standard boating and fishing activities are permitted.
