About This Access Site
Cutright is a boat ramp access point on Monroe Lake, Indiana's largest lake at 10,750 acres, located about 10 miles southeast of Bloomington in Monroe County. The site features both a main boat ramp and a high-water ramp (located past the shelter house) to accommodate varying lake levels. The main ramp is notably flat, while the high-water ramp is steep and designed for use during periods of high water. This access point is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboat users launching onto the expansive reservoir.

The area offers good recreational opportunities with abundant shoreline to explore. Monroe Lake is known for its extensive flooded timber and vegetation, which provides excellent fish habitat but also means paddlers should stay alert when navigating, especially during high water conditions. Cutright Recreation Area is part of the Hoosier National Forest system and includes amenities such as picnic areas and a shelter house.

For extended trips, two reservable campgrounds are located within 10 miles: Blackwell Campground and Hickory Ridge Campground. For current conditions, water levels, or additional information about the access site, contact the managing agency at 812-837-9967.
