The Dairyland access site provides a public boat ramp on the Mississippi River near Genoa in Vernon County, Wisconsin. Located at mile marker 814.3 on the left (Wisconsin) side of the river, this 25-foot-wide ramp accommodates boats and watercraft of various sizes. The site offers convenient access to Pool 8 of the Upper Mississippi River, a scenic stretch between Dresbach, Minnesota and Genoa, with nearby project lands managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for the Mississippi River's substantial current and flow characteristics. As a major river system (Stream Order 10), the Mississippi averages over 685,000 cubic feet of water per second with an average velocity of 11.24 feet per second. The relatively gentle average gradient of 0.8 feet per mile makes this section manageable for experienced paddlers, though the strong current requires caution and proper skill. Conditions can vary seasonally, so check current water levels and flow rates before launching.
For additional public landing options in the region, consult the Wisconsin DNR's comprehensive boat access database at dnr.wi.gov/topic/Lands/boataccess/, which lists approximately 3,000 public landings throughout the state.
