About This Access Site
Darby Bridge provides a concrete boat ramp for launching onto the Bitterroot River in Darby, Montana. This is a day-use only facility with no overnight accommodations at the ramp itself, though Lake Como Campground and Three Frogs Campground are located within 10 miles for those needing nearby camping. The ramp is conveniently located just south of Darby near Highway 97, with a small campground area adjacent to the launch.

Paddlers and boaters should be aware that the Bitterroot River below Darby Bridge features two diversion dams within the immediate float section. The first dam has a passage built into river right, while the second dam typically requires portaging on the left side at the diversion threshold—a dry slide is available to assist with this portage. This section is better suited to kayaks and canoes than hard boats, particularly during mid to late season when water levels are lower. Wade fishing is productive upstream from the access site. Consult current river flow conditions before launching, as water levels can significantly impact navigation around these dams and the overall paddling experience.
