About This Access Site
Located at 537 Darst Avenue in Punta Gorda, Darst Park offers convenient public access to the Peace River, a brackish-water estuary in Southwest Florida's Atlantic Coastal Plain. This government-owned facility features a stand-alone boat ramp with parking for 10-12 boat trailers, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. The ramp is positioned on the south side of the Peace River just off I-75, providing easy highway access.

From Darst Park, paddlers have straightforward access to popular destinations including Coon Key, Bird Key, and Long Island. The brackish water environment supports saltwater and estuarine species, making it attractive for both paddlers and anglers. Shore fishing and casting from the ramp along the mangrove shoreline are viable options. The calm estuary setting makes this a good starting point for exploring the lower Peace River system, though paddlers should be prepared for tidal conditions typical of Florida's coastal waterways.
