Located 25 miles west of Rapid City in the Black Hills National Forest, the Dutchman boat ramp provides access to Deerfield Lake and Castle Creek. To reach the ramp, take Highway 17 west from Hill City approximately 20 miles, then turn onto Forest Service Road (FSR) 607—the first access road you'll encounter. The ramp is situated on the southeast portion of the lake near Deerfield Dam. Deerfield Lake spans 400 surface acres with 16 miles of shoreline, offering ample space for kayaking, canoeing, and boating.
The site is well-developed for water recreation, with Dutchman Campground nearby featuring 44 reservable campsites, vault toilets, and a campground host. Black Fox Campground is another option within 10 miles. Day-use fees apply to the public use area. Beyond paddling, the location offers fishing, swimming, hiking, and picnic facilities. The Black Hills National Forest setting provides scenic surroundings for a full day or weekend water outing. Note that access is via a dead-end road, so plan accordingly for your visit.
