About This Access Site
The Donner Lake boat ramp is located on the northwest corner of the lake in Wellston, Manistee County, providing public access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters. The ramp is typically open from May through September and is unstaffed during the off-season, though it remains accessible to the public year-round. Boaters must have a current Donner Lake (DL) 2025 sticker or valid state launch permit to use the facility.

Donner Lake is a popular destination for both paddling and water sports, with motorized boats permitted on the water. The lake's sheltered waters make it suitable for a range of paddling abilities, especially during calmer morning conditions. If you're planning a multi-day paddling trip, nearby camping options include Sand Lake Campground and Upper Manistee River Backcountry Campsites, both available for reservation. Note that from May 1–October 10, the Alpine inspection station operates Thursday–Sunday (8:30 AM–5:30 PM) if your boat requires decontamination before launch.
