About This Access Site
Durham Access Area is a public boat ramp providing access to Hartwell Lake near Anderson, South Carolina. Located off County Road 741 southwest of Anderson, the facility features a 2-lane paved boat ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. This is a day-use area with no overnight camping at the site itself, though Lake Hartwell Camping and Cabins is available within 10 miles for those needing accommodations.

Hartwell Lake is one of the most popular Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation, offering abundant recreational opportunities year-round. The Durham Access Area provides a convenient launch point for exploring the Tugaloo River arm of the lake. Paddlers should note that this is a non-reservable, first-come, first-served access point, so arriving early during peak seasons is recommended. For larger groups or tournaments, nearby Tugaloo State Park operates a six-lane ramp with more capacity.
