The Emerald Isle Public Boat Ramp on Bogue Sound (part of the Intracoastal Waterway) is a well-developed access point located at 6800 Emerald Drive near mile marker 18 on NC 58, adjacent to the Chapel by the Sea. This facility features four launching ramps, making it ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boats. With 112 parking spaces for vehicle-trailer combinations plus an additional 18 vehicle-only spaces, the site accommodates groups and day-use visitors comfortably.
The facility offers amenities including restrooms, picnic areas, and playgrounds, making it suitable for family outings. Bogue Sound is a sheltered body of water within the Intracoastal Waterway system, providing relatively calm paddling conditions compared to open ocean conditions. This makes it an excellent launching point for both novice and experienced paddlers exploring the Crystal Coast area.
