Encampment River

The Encampment River Campground offers a convenient boat ramp and day-use access point for paddlers and boaters on the Encampment River near the town of Encampment in Carbon County. Located just south of town via County Road 353 and BLM Road 3407, this BLM facility provides a developed launch area along with 8 campsites for overnight stays. The ramp is positioned just before the main campground, making it easily accessible for day users.

The site includes vault toilets, day-use parking, and a sandy tent pad area for those wishing to camp. The surrounding landscape offers scenic riparian habitat where bighorn sheep can often be spotted, and the nearby Encampment River Trail provides hiking opportunities. This access point serves as a southern gateway for floating and fishing the Encampment River. For paddlers planning multi-day trips or those seeking the upper stretches of the river in Medicine Bow National Forest, alternate access is available further west via Wyoming Highway 70 and Forest Road 550.

The riparian area has cottonwoods, willows, juniper, wild rose, grasses and sagebrush. Visitors will see a variety of wildlife including bald eagles, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, mule deer, grouse, rattlesnakes. Both rainbow trout and brown trout are abundant.
