About This Access Site
**Access Details:** English Lake offers public boat ramp access via a concrete launch with a 50-foot port-a-pier, located off Forest Service Road 187 near Foster Junction in Ashland County. The ramp provides reliable water access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats year-round. From Mellen, take County Highway GG west approximately 9 miles and follow signs to the access point.

**Lake Character:** English Lake is a 51-acre water body with a maximum depth of 85 feet, offering relatively deep water suitable for various paddling and boating activities. The lake supports fishing for musky, bass, walleye, and panfish, and is popular for swimming and recreational boating. The surrounding area is part of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, providing scenic paddling and excellent opportunities for eagle watching and exploring nearby trails.

**Planning Your Visit:** The lake is located in the North Woods of northern Wisconsin with good access infrastructure. Note that nearby Mineral Lake Campground is currently closed, though the boat ramp remains available for day-use access. The forest is home to hundreds of miles of off-road vehicle, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as numerous lakes, ponds and rivers to sink a line or launch a boat. Access to the North Country National Scenic Trail, which traverses thousands of miles from New York to North Dakota, is available nearby.Facilities

Natural Features
The 256-acre Mineral Lake is surrounded by a mixed hardwoods forest. Several campsites overlook the lake and the area is home to a variety of birds, including eagles, and plentiful wildlife.

Nearby Attractions
Morgan Falls and St. Peter's Dome, the highest peak in the forest, are both located nearby and make excellent day trips.
