About This Access Site
The Flamingo Freshwater Boat Basin provides access to Buttonwood Canal and the inland waterways of Everglades National Park. Located at the southern tip of the park in Monroe County, this facility offers a dedicated boat ramp for paddlers and boaters seeking to explore both freshwater lakes and Florida Bay. The marina includes electric and water hookups, fuel service, and a marine store, with the Flamingo Visitor Center nearby offering restrooms, parking, and additional amenities.

Water conditions vary with tides: expect a draft of two feet at low tide and four feet at high tide at the canal entrance. Paddlers can access both the inland lakes and Florida Bay via Buttonwood Canal, making this an ideal launch point for exploring remote backcountry areas rich in wildlife. If the nearby Bear Lake Road is closed, paddlers can launch at the alternative freshwater ramp at Flamingo Marina and portage approximately 200 yards to reach the Bear Lake Canal system.

The Flamingo Campground is available nearby for those planning multi-day trips. Whether kayaking, canoeing, or boating, visitors should be prepared for tidal influences and bring tide tables to plan their paddling routes safely.
