Ferry Beach offers a public boat ramp on the Scarborough River, located at the end of Ferry Road in Scarborough. The ramp is managed by the Town of Scarborough and provides trailer access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. To reach the launch, take I-295 south to Exit 2 (US Route 1), then drive 1.2 miles and turn left onto Black Point Road. After 4.2 miles, turn right onto Ferry Road and follow it to the end, passing through the golf course to reach the public beach and boat launch area.
Paddlers should note that there are no restroom facilities at the ramp itself. A parking permit is required and includes access to three Town of Scarborough beaches: Ferry Beach, Hurd Park (Pine Point), and Higgins Beach. For current pricing and permit information, contact the Town of Scarborough or check their website for 2025 season details. The Scarborough River offers a scenic paddling experience, though paddlers should be aware of tidal conditions typical of coastal Maine rivers.
