About This Access Site
Located approximately 10 miles northwest of Gainesville in Cooke County, this public boat ramp provides access to Hubert M. Moss Lake via South Fish Creek. The lake averages 21 feet deep with a maximum depth of 70 feet near the dam, offering suitable conditions for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. The upper creek arms feature standing timber and abundant aquatic vegetation that can affect navigation, so paddlers should proceed carefully, especially when exploring the narrower creek sections.
**Important Access Requirements:** A boat permit is required to use this ramp. Contact the City of Gainesville Public Works Department at (940) 668-4540 (8 am–5 pm, Monday–Friday) or visit 104 West Hird Street to obtain your permit. The lake has been stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, and red-ear sunfish. Expect submerged creek channels, humps, and a standing bridge while paddling, particularly in the upper portions of the access area.
