About This Access Site
Located on Bardwell Mill Road west of Route 28 in Forestport, this DEC-maintained beach launch provides access to Forestport Reservoir on the Black River. The launch accommodates a small number of vehicles (5 cars and trailers), making it best suited for day trips rather than large group outings. The site is maintained by Algonquin Power Company and offers a straightforward entry point for kayakers and canoeists.

Forestport Reservoir is a modest-sized impoundment covering 117 acres with a 4-mile shoreline and maximum depth of 50 feet. These characteristics make it suitable for recreational paddling, with calm water conditions typical of a reservoir environment. Paddlers should note the limited parking availability and plan accordingly, particularly during peak seasons. The relatively shallow mean depth of 18 feet makes this an accessible destination for various skill levels.
