About This Access Site
Fort Getty offers a public boat ramp providing convenient access to Narragansett Bay West in Jamestown. The ramp is located at the southwest corner of Fort Getty Park and features a concrete slab launch with an accompanying dock. This makes it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats seeking to explore the scenic waters of the bay. The access point is well-positioned for paddlers interested in exploring nearby Dutch Island (site of the former Fort Greble), which lies a short distance offshore.

The park itself is primarily developed as a recreational vehicle and tent camping facility, offering amenities that make it convenient for multi-day paddling trips. The historic fort grounds feature old fortifications and a rocky beach, adding to the area's character. To reach the boat ramp, turn right at the end of Fort Adams Drive onto the second right turn at the Public Sailing Center lot, then bear right toward the beach to access the launch. Nearby recreation opportunities include access to the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge and Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, making this a good base for exploring Rhode Island's protected waters.
