Fort Wetherill offers excellent public access to Narragansett Bay's East Passage, with both a concrete boat ramp and a small beach area ideal for launching kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards. Located at the southwest corner of the park, the boat ramp is easily accessed by taking the second right off Fort Adams Drive at the Public Sailing Center lot, then bearing right toward the beach. The site is particularly popular with paddlers and boaters for its spectacular views of Newport Harbor and serves as a major hub for recreational diving year-round.
The location provides convenient access to the wider Narragansett Bay system, making it suitable for various water activities. Amenities include fishing piers and parking near the launch area. Be prepared for typical bay conditions and check tide forecasts before launching, as East Passage is an active waterway with commercial and recreational traffic. The site attracts visitors from throughout the region, so arriving early during peak seasons is recommended.
