About This Access Site
Fourmile Lake Campground offers a scenic boat launch and day-use area located at the southern gateway to the 113,400-acre Sky Lakes Wilderness. The facility features an improved boat ramp and dock, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and trailered boats. Dedicated parking for boat trailers and passenger vehicles is available at the ramp area. The lake is fed by clear, pristine snowmelt and sits at an elevation with striking views of Mt. McLoughlin. Note that water levels fluctuate seasonally, and the shoreline features a mix of sand and pebbly rocks.

The campground is located 6 miles north of Highway 140 (1/4 mile west of mile post 36 near Lake of the Woods) and offers both developed campsites and two backcountry campsites accessible by boat for overnight trips. Day-use visitors should expect a $10 fee, with an additional $10 vehicle fee. This rustic facility provides an excellent base for exploring the wilderness area and is popular with both paddlers and anglers. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov (1-866-201-4194), and the site's proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail adds to its appeal for multi-sport outdoor enthusiasts.

The wilderness has gentle, densely forested terrain with occasional steep areas. The name derives from the many small lakes, most of them clustered in several glacial basins near the crest of the Cascade Range. Several species of trees including Shasta red fir, western white pine, mountain hemlock, lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce and whitebark pine are found throughout the area. The forest's understory is dominated by species of huckleberry, as well as manzanita, snowbrush, and heather.
