Garrisons Lake offers convenient public access via a well-maintained boat ramp managed by Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. Located in Dover, Kent County, the ramp accommodates both hand-launched kayaks and canoes as well as trailered powerboats up to 20 feet long, making it versatile for paddlers of all types. The 84-acre lake provides a calm water environment ideal for recreational paddling and fishing.
The Leipsic River connects Garrisons Lake to surrounding waterways and the greater Delaware estuarine system. Paddlers can explore beyond the lake into tidal marshlands and explore the scenic Atlantic Coastal Plain landscape. The area is situated near significant natural resources, including the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve and Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, which protect extensive salt marshes and freshwater wetlands—offering opportunities for wildlife viewing and exploration of Delaware's diverse ecosystems.
The lake is known as one of Delaware's five most-fished ponds, so expect fishing activity, particularly for sunfish, largemouth bass, and black crappie. Bring adequate parking and plan accordingly, as the facility is a popular destination for both paddlers and anglers.
