Located at the headwaters of Dewey Lake near Prestonsburg, German Bridge offers a convenient boat ramp for kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters. The site is situated approximately 22 miles east of the dam in a scenic area surrounded by wooded hills that rise 700 feet above the water. This upstream location makes it an excellent starting point for exploring the quieter, upper portions of the lake, particularly suited for paddlers seeking calm conditions ideal for kayaking and canoeing.
The German Bridge area includes a small, non-reservable campground with basic facilities right off the backwaters, making it practical for launching day trips or overnight paddles. Nearby Jenny Wiley State Resort Park (about 10 miles away) offers additional full-service amenities including lodging, a marina, canoe and pontoon rentals, and recreational facilities. **Note:** Seasonal drawdowns can temporarily close some boat ramps; contact the Huntington District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for current access status, particularly during winter months.
