About This Access Site
Located in La Crosse along the Mississippi River's Pool 7, this access point offers convenient entry to one of North America's major waterways. Goose Island County Park features multiple boat ramps and canoe launch areas, making it an excellent staging point for paddlers exploring the Upper Mississippi River Valley. The park is situated between Trempealeau, WI and Dresbach, MN in a scenic corridor managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Mississippi River at this location is a substantial waterway with an average flow of 685,000 cubic feet per second and relatively gentle gradient (0.8 ft/mile). While the river can be paddled by canoeists in calm conditions, be prepared for strong current and significant boat traffic. Note that seasonal closures occur after October 30th through April 15th, which may limit access to certain facilities and roads within the park. Strong winds are common on this wide section of river, so check weather conditions before launching.

To reach the access site from La Crosse, take Highway 35 South to County Highway GI West. Multiple ramp options within Goose Island County Park provide flexibility for different boat types and skill levels. Nearby amenities include private marinas with services such as camping, docking, fuel, and supplies at Bay Point and Island Campground locations.
