The Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area offers a scenic boat ramp and access to the Grand Bay wetland complex in southern Georgia. This expansive 18,000-acre wetland system is the second-largest in the state after the Okefenokee Swamp.
The boat ramp provides a convenient launching point for kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats to explore the tranquil waters of the Grand Bay wetlands. The wetlands are characterized by cypress-gum swamps, Carolina bays, and forested areas, offering paddlers and boaters the opportunity to immerse themselves in a unique, biodiverse ecosystem.
Visitors should be aware that the Grand Bay WMA is considered a "user fee area," and a valid Georgia hunting, fishing, or lands pass is required. A canoe trail brochure with more detailed information on the wetlands can be obtained from the Valdosta-Lowndes County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Boaters and paddlers are encouraged to exercise caution and respect the natural environment during their visit to this ecologically significant area.
