Grand Marais

The Grand Marais boat ramp is located on the east side of the commercial harbor within the city of Grand Marais and provides a concrete launch facility for accessing Lake Superior. The ramp is available seasonally whenever ice is out, typically from May through October. This is a non-reservable public access point managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for Lake Superior conditions, which can change rapidly and require respect for this large, cold freshwater lake. The protected bay near Grand Marais offers a more sheltered launch area compared to open Superior waters. The facility includes parking and is centrally positioned for accessing the shoreline between Thunder Bay and Minnesota's Grand Marais. Nearby alternative access points include Nawakwa Lake (10 miles south), Sable Lake (4 miles west), and Blind Sucker Flooding (8 miles east) for those seeking additional launch options. Hurricane River Campground is available nearby for overnight stays.
