About This Access Site
Located at the end of a side road across from Johnson Beach facilities on Perdido Key, this bayside boat ramp provides convenient access to Big Lagoon and is ideal for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Unlike the beach access points along the main park road, this dedicated launch eliminates the need to carry your watercraft from parking to water, making it the preferred option for hand-paddled vessels. The ramp accesses a scenic lagoon environment within the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Paddlers launching here can explore approximately 14 miles of round-trip routes within Big Lagoon. The site is well-suited for recreational paddling and offers a more protected water experience compared to gulf-side launches. Two nearby campgrounds—Fort Pickens Campground (reservable) and Fort Pickens Group Campground—make this an excellent base for multi-day paddling trips in this beautiful coastal park.
