About This Access Site
The Hamlin Lake Boat Ramp, located in Ludington State Park, provides well-maintained access to the Big Sable River and Hamlin Lake. This is a popular put-in for paddlers, with ample parking and a properly designed ramp facility. The ramp is situated just below the dam, making it an ideal starting point for kayakers and canoeists of all skill levels. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through the Hamlin Concession if you don't have your own craft.

From this launch, paddlers typically undertake the scenic 2-mile out-and-back paddle down the Big Sable River to where it meets Lake Michigan, making it accessible for both beginners and experienced paddlers. The park offers interpretive maps of the designated Ludington State Park Canoe Trail, which are available at the rental facility. The day-use area features exhibits and programming, adding educational value to your paddling experience.
